We have been kept extremely busy at Laduma Analytics over the last few months. Football matches have been ticking over at such quick intervals, it has been nearly impossible at times to keep up. To make matters more difficult, the access to stadiums for various media outlets and fans has been non-existent due to the current Covid pandemic.
Last week we made an announcement on our Twitter account. In said announcement, we wanted to release a plan which would allow our followers to have more ‘enhanced’ conversations and debates about their team and the individual players. Everybody has their own opinion on a situation, player, team or even coach and we believe the better in-depth coverage the audiences receive, the more engaged they will be.
The issue as far as we are aware is that the access to data is a problem for many. first and foremost, it is a costly expense. The second problem is being able to effectively manage the data, ie: build cleaning processes and storage facilities to manage all the information. It is no simple task believe us. However, we have taken care of that part, so the groundwork has been laid for you to get creative.
How can the visualisations help?
If you are previewing or reviewing a game, you can use the visualisations to illustrate a point. Whether that is regarding a team or player shot map, the touches they made in a game or even the chances each team had, these visualisations can help illustrate points or opinions to your audience. Let’s use the example of AmaZulu vs SuperSport Utd from earlier this month. AmaZulu won the game 1-0 through a goal by Siphelele Mthembu. However as the map below shows, based on the shooting opportunities that each team had, AmaZulu completely dominated Matsatsantsa. They took their chances in dangerous areas of the opposition box and left SuperSport to shoot the majority of their 4 opportunities from low value spots and angles to goal.
